The Story of La Grange

“Add a dash of OCD to a dollop of gear-head perfectionism and an unhealthy whisper of workaholism, and you start to get the picture”

My love affair with instruments stems from a greater love of music. The captivating sounds of vinyl from my youth, mixed-tape madness in the early teens, C.D. collections obsessively categorized, to modern streaming (cough, cough) led to an obsession with instruments and gear. 30 years of studying, apprenticeship, collaboration, experimenting, tinkering, tweaking, chiseling, soldering, disassembly, modding and reassembly have cemented my mantra of, “extracting the full potential of the instrument on my bench,” regardless of the name on the headstock.

The Story

La Grange Guitar Workshop

In addition to owning La Grange Guitars, I’m a family man, a high-school English teacher,                                                               love motorcycles, live on an equestrian property, and play as many open mics and jams as I can.  I take on repair projects that are interesting, challenging, sometimes nostalgic, and that I can turnaround in a timely fashion, often 48 to 72 hours. Projects are scheduled, with time blocked out specifically for each job; space is limited, and I’m not out to compete with the local music store.

Considerable thought and investment has been made in the tools, supplies                                        and layout in the shop. The precision equipment is from Stew-Mac and top luthier supply stores, and the woodworking area is in a separate space. I stock quality consumables (nuts, saddles, electronics, hardware parts, and way too many strings). The space itself was originally a yoga studio/home theatre that offers an acoustically rich environment for you to test your completed instrument before we make final adjustments.

My go to guy for all things guitar. You always come away knowing more about your guitar and guitars in general.

Will did some really fine work on my guitars, recently, kept me updated all the while and charges a very fair rate for what is really a hard to find skill set, these days. Couldn’t recommend any more. Gold stars. 5/5. A+

I am so happy with the work that Will has done on my old Les Paul, it is back alive! My G&L wiring has been modified, and swapped pick ups, balanced and adjusted to tone for days! Thanks for all the love and passion! I’m a happy guy!
