Frequenty Asked Questions
What is your address ?
The workshop is at my home in St-Lazare, Quebec, so I screen all customers before revealing the address. Fewer people get shot that way.
Do you do appraisals?
No. Appraisals are a discipline in their own right, and there are people far more qualified to do it.
Can you recommend a good inexpensive guitar?
Yes. First of all, I encourage buying used; you’ll pay half the price of a new guitar, and an older guitar often sounds more “matured.” I can inspect/refurbish a used guitar, but I cannot act as a personal shopper for you. Ask a knowledgeable friend to help you choose. Acoustically, I’m impressed with the sound, playability and build quality of Seagull and Yamaha. For electrics, the Squier Classic Vibe series and Epiphones are amazing after a careful setup.
Do you work on tube amps?
Not anymore, (I’m paranoid about voltage), but I have amp gurus I can refer you to.
Can you do a neck reset on my Taylor?
Ugh. I wish. It takes 15 minutes. But, I cannot get ahold of their cool NT shim set. Taylor jealously guards its proprietary NT shim system, but this has created a situation where certified stores have a wait time (sometimes months) and will charge $150 for a 15 minute job. I’m still negotiating with Taylor, but I wish they were more customer-focused. They want my money and way too much personal info to become a “certified” authorized Taylor repair shop.
Est-ce que tu parles le français?
Avec plaisir. On est entrain de bâtir le site web, mais mes jokes de père ne traduisent pas facilement!
